We spent years building and running software for wholesale distributors. The same problem came up with every customer. Their storefront search ran on a copy of the catalog that synced on a schedule. Stock in search was hours old. Prices were list prices, not the retailer's tier. Buyers who typed a part number got nothing, called a rep, and the rep looked it up in the ERP by hand.

The data was already correct in the ERP. The search layer was the thing lying. So we built search that reads from the ERP instead of a copy, shows each account its own price, and understands the codes buyers actually type.

The ERP is the source of truth. Any index that is not reading from it will eventually show the wrong stock or the wrong price.

Buyers order by code. SKU, part number and barcode search are the primary path, not an edge case.

Pricing should be flat. You should not pay more because your customers searched more. Plans are priced by catalog size only.
